Portland Winter Lights Festival Bike Ride 2/3

February 3, 2017 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Break out the battery powered lights, decorate your bike and yourself, and join a ride to shake off those winter blues.

No tickets needed, show up ready to bicycle – Friday night, February 3rd. This free, all ages will start gathering cyclists between 7:30pm – 8pm at Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) front plaza on SE Water Ave in front of OMSI’s east facing doors. The ride will get underway just after 8pm. The 3.5 mile route will head south to Tilikum Crossing looping over the Willamette, north to the Hawthorne bridge, back over the Willamette and south to OMSI’s front plaza.

Bring more than your bicycle headlights and taillights. Use your illuminated imagination – add glow sticks, LEDs, Electroluminescent (EL) wire, wheel lights, etc. Come decked out in lights during the darkest part of winter — and as always, remember to dress appropriately for the February weather! We’ll be riding rain or shine. Our fingers are crossed for no snow.

For extra inspiration and supplies you can pay a visit in person or online to Portland merchant Ellumiglow (ready to wear electronics & lights in addition to DIY kits) to get tips and tricks on how to make your ride extra radiant. Ellumiglow is offering the 10% off promo code “PWLF17” for website + in-store purchases.

About the Portland Winter Lights Festival

The Portland Winter Lights Festival is one of the most incredible events to happen in Portland. Over the course of a few days, artists set up the fantastical light displays along the Portland waterfront. Many of the pieces are interactive, meaning the actions of the artist or viewers will alter how an installation behaves.

At the darkest time of the year, the nighttime cityscape lit up in colorful lights is quite a sight to soak in. Toasty fires blaze inside radiating metal sculptures to help you stay warm along the way as you stroll the promenade and enjoy the mesmerizing displays.
