Meets at River City Bicycles Parking Lot (706 SE Martin Luther King Blvd; http://rivercitybicycles.com/). If you are driving to River City Bicycles, they ask that you park on the street rather than in their parking lot. There is free parking under the Morrison bridge.
We leave from River City Bicycles at 9:00 am every Saturday, all year long. We aim to be back to RCB before noon, but no promises as this is a no drop ride, and the group will stop to fix flats, take a bathroom break once on the ride, and re-group at major turns on the route. Please come prepared with plenty of snacks and water and dressed for the weather. There are free espresso drinks or hot/cold chocolate milk waiting for you at the end of the ride at River City!
We aim to ride 30-40 miles. The pace generally hovers in the 14-19 mph range, faster than a recreational cruise, but almost always conversational pace. We sometimes ride faster on the flats (up to 20-ish mph) and descents, and sometimes slower on the climbs (8-ish mph). Be prepared for hills and flats. Road or hybrid type bike recommended.
We will assist you with flat tires that occur on route. You should carry a spare inner tube, flat tire repair tools, and a CO2 cartridge or air pump. Winter tires (i.e. some tread), fenders, and a buddy flap (as low to the ground as you can get it) are strongly recommended when there’s a chance of rain. Cycling helmet required. Please note River City Bicycles opens at 10 AM on Saturdays, after we depart.
Weather policy: YES we will be riding unless there is ice in the bike lanes or an earthquake.
