NOTE: ONLINE REGISTRATION IS NOW CLOSED. DAY OF RIDE REGISTRATION WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE COLUMBIA GORGE DISCOVERY CENTER IN THE DALLES ON JUNE 13TH FOR $40 PER RIDER FROM 7:00 TO 10:00AM.
A fully supported bike ride on Saturday, June 13, 2009, starting at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center in The Dalles. It extends 19.25 miles along the Historic Columbia River Highway and HCRH State Trail to the west to the Senator Mark O. Hatfield West Trailhead, just east of Hood River. This route, with its world-class scenery, is a combination of historic highway that is open to motor vehicles, with very low traffic, and the HCRH State Trail that is open only to hikers and bicyclists. The HCRH State Trail is paved and most of the trail is 16 feet in width. This is an out and back route of 38.5 miles. This ride will be supported with water stops, snacks, mechanical support and a SAG wagon. The total elevation gain for this ride is 2,974 feet.
Experience the panoramic view at Rowena Crest, visit the grounds of the historic Mayerdale Estate and travel through the restored Mosier Twin Tunnels.
The non-refundable on-line registration fee is $30 per rider. On-line registration will close end of day Tuesday, June 9th. Day of event registration will be available at the Gorge Discovery Center for $40 per rider.
A sack lunch from the Basalt Rock Cafe, within the Gorge Discovery Center, may be purchased during on-line registration for $11.
High quality T-shirts with the graphic shown above may be purchased during on-line registration for $15 per shirt.
Packet pickup will be at the Columbia Gorge Discovery Center on June 13th from 7:00 to 10:00 AM. The course opens at 7 AM and closes at 4 PM. Participants will be required to sign our waiver and release form at packet pickup. Riders under 18 years of age need to be accompanied on the ride by a registered adult and their waiver and release form must be signed by a parent or legal guardian. Participants must wear an ANSI or Snell approved helmet. Maps with cue sheet and elevation chart will be provided at packet pickup.
Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway's vision is to restore and preserve the existing drivable portions of the historic highway to their splendid 1920s appearance and link drivable portions with pedestrian and bicycle accessible connections, creating a continuous route through the Columbia River Gorge.
