Cranksgiving Comes to Portland

With just a bike bag, a lock and a $10 entry fee, you can help provide much needed supplies for Outside In, a non-profit organization that helps homeless youth and other marginalized people move toward improved health and self-sufficiency.

Cranksgiving is an annual event that started in New York City in 1999, and this year it’s happening in more than 25 cities across the country. The organizers are hoping for large crowds to kick off the inaugural day of fun biking and giving back here in Portland. “We are encouraging people to bring a Thanksgiving memory to share, and help us make a new one as we make this a pumpkin-flavored success.”

Teams of two to five people will be given a list of items to buy at various local stores and haul back to the finish line. The first team back will win a prize (“Because this is America,” the organizers say) and there is also a prize for best costume (“Because this is Portland”).
