The gorgeously fun Portland Tweed Ride is this weekend – April 12 starting from Cathedral Park. Tweed Rides were founded in London (of course) as the Tweed Run, and they have since taken off all over the world.
The pace: ultra casual
The attire: rich tweeds, wools, laces and other vintage stylings
The bikes: penny farthings and three speeds encouraged, but all bikes welcome
The people: Oh! Such a mix of friendly people of all ages and lifestyles
The distance: About 10-12 miles
We love this ride as a spring celebration. Flowers are in bloom, the crowd is in good spirits and the outfits are amazing.
Hurry! Run to the nearest Goodwill to look for a wool skirt or jacket and get ready to get dapper. Don’t worry, if you don’t have a proper tweed outfit, simply dress in vintage style and you’ll fit right in.
There’s also a big party at Old Portland Hardware at the end of the ride.
